Patient Participation Group

Next PPG Meeting

Our next PPG meeting is to be held on Wednesday 24th January 2018 at 6pm at the surgery.

What is a Patient Participation Group?

A Patient Participation Group (PPG) is where a group of health professionals and patients can come together to address issues that effect health and health services in their local community.

Usually connected to a particular GP practice, patient forums provide a link between practice staff and their registered patients.

The agenda of any particular group will depend upon the local needs, interests and energies of the participants, but its key role is to:

Enable patients to have a say on how the practice operates

Provide feedback on new systems within the practice such as booking an appointment

Act as a sounding board for ideas Support the practice to provide a high quality of care and service delivery.

Practice Based Commissioning

Following the introduction of Practice Based Commissioning, patient forums are also increasingly being used to support the commissioning process.

Practice-Based Commissioning is a Government policy, which passes the responsibility for buying the majority of local health services from Primary Care Trusts to local GP practices.

In order to make commissioning decisions that reflect the needs, priorities and aspirations of the local population commissioners must engage with the public and actively seek the views of patients, carers and the wider community.

Patient forums will enable commissioners to collect feedback from the community about current health service provision and suggestions concerning gaps and how services could be improved.
